Status Quo opening the whole thing, Bob Geldof's mike giving up through his set with the Boomtown Rats, Queen's masterful set (Freddy Mercury was such a huge talent) and Phil Collins performing in the UK and later in the US to name but a few things plus of course Geldof's "Give us your F**kin' money" rant as he hits the table.
Sad thing is that I'll go into work and virtually all of the people won't remember Live Aid because either they weren't born or too young to remember. What a fantastic line up of bands and artists.
As others have posted, where have 37 years gone ?
It was. Totally unique in the way TV got involved, I think there was a concert for Bangladesh or Biafra? in the late 60's/early 70's but never got the public going like this, It spawnd Sport aid, Comic Relief etc and of course Live Aid 2 in 2005, Think after a while the public got "Africa Fatigue" but in 1985 Live Aid shook the place.Whatever anyone thinks of Geldof, it was amazing to pull that off on 13th July 1985.
The Concert for Bangladesh in 1971 was by George Harrison & Ravi Shankar in NYC..A live album was later released. That was to help refugees fleeing the former East Pakistan. It was. And all started with Micheal Burke's harrowing report from Ethiopia in late '84.
Cheers for that Olds, Knew there were concerts but I can't remember them getting as much exposure as Live Aid did.Just thought of another one Rock for Kampuchea(Cambodia))in late 1979..A load of separate gigs at Hammersmith Odeon, quite a line up too over different nights,Clash : Pretenders : Wings,: Queen. A few cameo guest appearances too.
A compilation album was released on the back of the musical jamboree.
