Some good crowds in the FAC 3rd Round.32,000 at Swindon. The Grecians had lost to Swansea 0-1 at SJP in a 2nd round replay that season.

I’m not a fan of photos of players(or fans) celebrating preferring action photos generally, but I just love this photo.
The occasion, the two great players in the photo & the meaning of the goal in the context for the club a hour or so later.1B619056-466F-46A8-BC1F-1304D4CA4DAC.jpeg

3rd May 1986..The Grecians had completed the season, they were overhauled by Rochdale a few days later(clubs sometimes played games after the official season end in those pre play off days)which was to mean applying for re election at the Football League AGM in June.

Don't know if it's just my eyes but it looks like Jackman scored for City. I'm guessing it was Garry Jackson and not a very young Hugh that was actually the scorer 🙂

24/10/1981...Look at the crowd at Home Park !
Preston were rare visitors to SJP back then,31C7C507-66D6-4944-9D63-54F37F63C664.jpegthis was only the 2nd visit. The previous visit in 1977 was with the late Nobby Stiles at the helm.
Not a lucky ground for North End.The Grecians knocked 5 past them the next season at SJP.

I had forgotten all about him..Remember the Test being cancelled in Guyana around 1981 because of his South African heritage ?
What a dreadful tour which reached its nadir when tour manager Ken Barrington died in Barbados.
Apologies for off topic but the Jackman name got the memories going !!
