Whilst acknowledging his military service, Pen Farthing seems to be another of those characters who wilfully puts himself in troublesome hotspots around the world and when it goes pear-shaped, they seem to view the Foreign Office (and in this case the MOD as well) as being constantly at their personal beck and call.
When he announced that he would hold BJ, Wallace and Raab personally responsible for the welfare of his Mrs and a heavily pregnant employee if they got injured at Kabul Airport, he lost all my sympathy.
Over entitled prat! 😡
Glad I'm not the only one thinking this too.

UK evacuation ends in Afghanistan, Government admits not all got out and with the alarming news that the Taliban may have details of those that helped British Forces we can only hope and pray those left behind find a safe passage out somehow.

She was lucky to have contacts who could help and was so tenacious in trying to get her and her husband out. It does show the chaos and seeming disorganisation within whichever govt department was in charge of the evacuation process.

Seems a strange takeaway from this story, these situations are defined by the panic and disorganisation that ensues, the pressure on government departments must be huge.

The takeaway is that this is a story about someone with good connections who despite having two MP's trying to help her was lucky in the end to get out and needed "unofficial" help to get out. Yes the Govt departments will be under great pressure, but that's what happens and they have to perform. They seem to have delayed this case putting people whose lives are at great risk in an even more precarious situation due to disorganisation and lack of communication.

No one says it is easy but there has to be a standard and clear processes and leadership that seem to be lacking. And it really doesn't matter what government it is in these cases. These situations go beyond party politics, it directly affects life and death for people.

The real takeaway should be realising that are hundreds or thousands of Afghani people who are in just as much danger but without those connections. You have to ask what chance did they have in getting the correct paperwork and permissions?

The U.K. were never taking hundreds of thousands Rosey. I think considering the speed of the collapse and the fact that the U.K. could only ever deal with the situation as dictated by the US, 165 flights in 14 days and 15K evacuated is pretty impressive.
