We're talking about Div 2 footballers here, not prima donna Premier League blokes.
It should be "have boots, will travel".
Are they so soft that they can't handle around 10 5-hour bus trips per year? Or so meek and insecure that they can't move 3 hours down the motorway for a couple of years? Jesus, many blokes have to move around the country to do their jobs. It's a short career and players have to focus on what's best for them in the footballing sense. Domestic issues can be resolved
5 hours on a bus. You were lucky.....

I do believe it's champers, not beer. Only the best for City
One of the greatest. Will always remember him. Even playing for Argyle. Who cares. A legend.

Whatever. IiNM the players often stay overnight
Good for team spirit : the players don't often spend so much time together as a team

When the same point is repeated 'ad infinitum' by different people at different times, then the reality is that there's probably a semblance of truth in their argument. If you live in the NW and are offered the same contract by Rochdale and Exeter, it's likely you'll go to Rochdal

The costs of moving house, including stamp duty, legal fees, searches, removers are going to be north of £10k. That same contract value in Rochdale suddenly seems appealing.
If that becomes a factor for a player you really want, you take care of it with a "signing on fee", especially if they are a free agent and no transfer fee is involved.

Cole Skuse released by Ipswich. Originally from Bristol. Wrong side of 30 but if we can get a car load from Bristol, it will be like the old days....

Come and live in Exeter home of cheap house prices
Exeter itself is over priced. Compare the local new builds in Exeter with versions within 20-30 minutes of Exeter and you can save yourself upwards of £20k.

Exactly the type of player we need however wiki tells me that after being out of action for five months due to injury, he made his first appearance of the season as a second-half substitute in a 1–0 home win over Plymouth Argyle on 13 March 2021. Can we risk it?

Would rather James Wilson but that might be wishful thinking.

The Chiefs wage bill in 2018 was £9.6m. Most players are therefore on £200k+ / year. Our wage bill is £1.3 with players averaging around £40k. Chiefs players earn five times more than City players. That softens the blow of uprooting your family.
The Chiefs had a squad of 56 players, some who would have been on more than 200k and many on much less....

Apart from the strong nucleus of homegrown players, Chiefs tend to do their recruitment of ready made players from outside the Premiership - Scotland, Wales, South Africa, Argentina, Australia etc. All leagues where the pay tends to be lower. The Premiership is only really behind France in terms of budget and pay.

Of course with the budget cap (waves at Saracens), the competition wage wise within the Premiership is quite equal. But it's interesting why the big players within the Premiership haven't yet come down to Exeter, only some of those from other leagues like Stuart Hogg, Jonny Gray and Alex Cuthbert. Is that by design by the Chiefs or is it harder to get players from other English clubs who will generally be on the same wages? The only high(ish) profile signing from a rival team has been Ollie Devoto from Bath.
