The 39 Steps (1935). With John Laurie and Peggy Adhcroft. A man in London tries to help a counter-espionage Agent. But when the Agent is killed, and the man stands accused, he must go on the run to save himself and stop a spy ring which is trying to steal top secret information. Has aged a bit! Still a good story, some lovely camera work. 6/10.
And lovely legs 😍

Promising Young Woman

Carey Mulligan really out of her comfort zone in this thriller where she plays someone keen on revenge for a friend's death. Edge of seat stuff and she plays it brilliantly.

Best new film I've seen in a long long time. Not that there's been much competition this past year.

10/10

Night Train to Munich (1940). Germans capture an armaments engineer from England, and the Brits set about getting him back. An excellent film with a great plot line, and some humour. Models were used for the camp and some of the train journeys, but this was 1940 so forgiven. Well worth a watch! 8/10.

It departed from the novel more than I liked having read the book and analysing it in English classes at school.

Did not like the Mr Memory Man variation at all. No value added.

Still a good film considering how long ago it was made. Regarded by critics as the best of The 39 Steps films.

The Lady Vanishes 1938 also starring Margaret Lockwood was a sort of ‘sister’ film to Night Train to Munich. Both had Caldecott and Charters the cricket loving duo in them. Both films were excellent for their time , they don’t make ‘em like that anymore!

The Lady Vanishes is also on the list to watch. We seem to be having a black & white session.

And Then There Were None (1945). Adopted from Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians, the film's story centres around 10 people invited to an island where one by one they are murdered. Not your typical story from Agatha, with no detective leading the story. Dragged a bit so 5/10.

I seem to have more time to watch them at the moment. Can't think why :)

And, as has been mentioned before, it starred the lovely Madeleine Carroll.
