19th January 1983.

Sports night covering a up & coming boxers bout the night before.Frank Bruno was on his way, winning his first 21 pro fights by KO.This run was ultimately ended by James “Bonecrusher” Smith In 1984.

Another name from those days, someone who seemed to commentate on every sport was Alan Weeks(1923-96) He was still working behind the microphone until a few months before his death.

Mum would have been watching Big Frank with Gran "not watching" and saying "I wouldn't let no son of mine do that" before watching Torvill and Dean who she worshipped as much as Seb Coe and Ian Botham in those days.

Politics Live on BBC2 from 12.15pm(11.15 on Weds) is must watch at the moment. The defection of the Bury South MP breaking yesterday really caught everyone on the hop,let alone with all of the other dramas surrounding the government at this time.

Jess Philips in fine form on Politics Live..When asked &
shown the tweets that the new Labour MP for Bury South had said about her Labour colleagues she replied....”That could have come from any Labour MP talking about someone in the party. You should see what we text about each other” 🤣🤣

Hairy Bikers : Route 66 on BBC2.

6 episodes where the pair are eating their way to LA.
Looks interesting going along the route that is now a snapshot of small town America after the Interstate Highways bypassed much of the route.

20th January 1983.

The Citadel a 10 part drama about a newly qualified Scottish doctor who’s first job was working in a small Welsh mining community.
Ben Cross(1947-2020)of Chariots of Fire(1981) fame in the lead role as Dr Andrew Mason.
The BBC adaptation was from a novel of the same name written by A J Cronin in 1937.

From what I remember it was a very good production.

20th January 1987.

Ruth Langsford & John Doyle(1940-2007) presenting the Today South West news magazine programme.
Doyle started on Westward TV in 1963 also worked as a freelance presenter on ITV Westcountry after TSW lost their franchise.

On Channel 4 later was The Max Headroom Show with Oliver Reed as the guest..That would have been interesting.
