August 1972.

The price of Colour TVs are falling as demand increases, plus most of the UK had access to Colour transmission.
4 years before a Colour TV set would cost the equivalent of £3,200 today. The Sony 18” in the advert would cost the equivalent of £1,850 today.

Iirc this was the model our neighbour had. I recall watching the 1973 FA Cup Final on it. The first I saw live in colour.

Ha...A brilliant piece of work from Burnley FC social media TV using a Bruce Forsyth clip with the conveyor belt prop from The Generation Game.

Ad for the long forgotten Outer Spacer Crisps.

There was a trend in the late 70s for doing TV adverts without actors to save costs. Smash potato was another to use this format.

The Kipper & Corpse episode of Fawlty Towers was from the 2nd Series, first broadcasted on 22/7/1979.
It is my favourite episode(a tough choice because they are all brilliant).
I remember when it was shown laughing so much that my stomach ached 🤣

What are other posters favourite episode/scene

Grief that's tough. Basil the rat, wildebeest roaming Torquay, hotel inspectors, gourmet meals, dodgy builders etc. I'll go for the Germans, who started it.

For me there are not many TV shows that really made an impact on me, Fawlty Towers was one, Others were The Young Ones, Not The Nine O'clock News, Blackstuff, Boys From The Blackstuff, The Tube, Star Trek TNG to name a few.

My favourite was The Gourmet and in particular the scene where presenting the silver tureen with a flourish, he discovers to his horror that rather than Duck L'Orange it contains a trifle. When he started ploughing through the trifle looking for the duck I fell out of my chair and was rolling around laughing uncontrollably for the next 20 minutes or so !

Even at my age, I loved the Young Ones. Not the Nine O'clock news launched so many careers. Alas Smith and Jones....
