Plenty of work to be done, I suspect Clive Pring will have his pitchfork ready at the end of the concert making sure everyone leaves his hallowed turf!
They don't like it up 'em.

Amazing amount of work and kit required to get a pitch sorted, isn't there? Not just a case of mowing the lawn and painting a few lines.

One question that has always bugged me. Does anyone know why you often see ground staff mowing the pitch immediately after a match? Can't it wait until the next day?

As a guess it rolls the pitch and picks up debris in one go?

I think that is correct. Plus it annoyed whoever interviewed Reuben Reid after a game. :)

That’s exactly what it does.

You're right, but when we took over City in 2003 that was more or less all the bust Club had then.

The groundsman, Mark, was a lovely bloke but was really up against it. About 90% of his work was done by hand. It was basically just spades, forks, a mower and heavy hand pushed rollers.

To water the pitch he had a clockwork contraption fed by a hosepipe that you had to wind up and then it would propel itself along the pitch following a guide rope and sprinkling as it goes.
It couldn't be left for long though as it would always jam somewhere and leave a stonking great puddle of water.

There's a 45 second video on Twitter of Charlie demonstrating an Allett lawnmower at Twickenham. ECFC fame spread wide!

Have ABBA left the pitch? Surprised there wasn't a match day thread for the event!

Scarifying the pitch mechanically and raking up the thatch manually; thirsty work !
