I've had to fly in some Romanians! Will knock up an Eton mess later.
A tidy haul Manc. Save some for the Pimms for Mrs Manc and who knows where the evening might lead.

This year's successes include shallots (bottled for pickled onions) , runner and french beans also wifey's Dahlias and Geraniums.

Failures were apples (that late frost whacked the blossom), spuds, broccoli and cauliflowers (munched by caterpillars) and my strawberries.

The jury is still out on the tomatoes - some did okay but others ripened at the size of peas !

All in all it's been a weird year what with the scorcher of a spring and the washout that was summer in these parts and I'm not bothering with growing anything over winter this time.

Fair crop of Bramley apples, and quite a few pears on an elderly tree. Other than that, it's back to the hedge-cutting when the weather dries up again.

My Bramley apple tree is every two years (is that biannual?).

Runner beans finally running amok after having a poor summer.

Not great this year and are now tough and stringy.

Disappointing

I've done really well with beans, especially broads and runners. Sacked off the broads a couple of weeks ago but have some pods drying out to replant next year. Runners are still going as strong as ever as, surprisingly, are the French beans. Peas once again were disappointing - lots of growing for not a lot of end product, same as with the courgettes and cucumbers. The latter I'll definitely not bother with again. Strawberries were better than last year, as were the beef tomatoes although all the tomatoes other than the ones outside are now long gone.

Have had a good clear out recently but there's still strawberries, peppers, chillis, runner and French beans, kale, peas, carrots, beetroot, rhubarb and tomatoes going strong.

Carrots now being seriously assaulted by the feckin' root fly. I think this is the second wave.

Do we pull and store or are other remedies available ?

Green fingered advice gratefully received.

I plant marigolds with mine. If grown from seed and not transplanted they should be okay.
