Whilst it is always a gamble signing for a big club where a youngster may never make it, and though it would help Alfie still to be playing mens rather than U21 football...

...I don't think that is exactly right about George. He signed for Wolves in the Championship in Sept 2008.

In his first season he made 5 championship appearances as Wolves won promotion to the Premier League.

In his second season he went out on loan (thank heaven!) as Wolves were in the Premiership.

For his third season he transferred to another Championship club and has played at Championship or Premiership level ever since.

So his path back to the Championship was only one year.It may not have seemed like that because the the one year contained 4 loan spells and the Championship side he played for in 2010-12 was...Doncaster Rovers!
Moreover, reasonably sure he did make a handful of appearances for Wolves [possibly in cup games] in their Premier League season; can distinctly recall watching him play against Man U at Old Trafford in the League Cup.

That was a league game where they rotated their entire squad (and were roasted for it).

6 in the Championship but only one v. Manure in the PL which led to them getting fined for fielding an under strength team.

George has had a decent career. The frustrating thing as a city fan was he was sold with add-ons but then released by Wolves at the end of his contract so no add-ons were forthcoming. Hopefully that will not happen with Alfie Pond. So far, only one sale with clauses has produced big for city. We live in hope another will happen! Every close season I remember thinking the Coppinger deal was going to pay off but he never moved. The clauses may pay off but more often than not don't.

Not true, Ethan Amps is still drip feeding, another 250k this window, and if he should go next summer then more buckaroos, the others like you say we are still waiting on, but with Preston's solid defence this year and Jordan Storey being a part of it don't be surprised to see more money dripping in in January

Good luck to him. That is a cracking move if he can eventually get into their first team squad. Hope he becomes as good a player as he believes he is.

Let's just hope that the PL sharks don't leave him floundering.
