Far away across the field
Some amazing attendance figures for those games.
Not long after the war. Limited TV coverage. Limited number of TVs owned. No Match of the Day or similar.

Almost 44,000 to watch Torquay...or Tommy Lawton at Nott's County. Good to see Mouser's old man bagging a couple.

Imagine an Easter weekend with no motorways (but a much bigger rail network), and going from Brighton to Nottingham to Torquay, for 3 games in 4 days.

Easter Weekend 1950(7-10th April)
3 games in 4 days.
I remember until the late 1970s & beyond that sort of fixture list in a short space of time was the norm in the Easter period.

In RaWZ we trust....Amen.
The Reserves in the Western League in the 1970s
Final table for 1973/74.
Mid season 1979/80.
A really competitive league for fringe players & for players getting match fit from injury.

FA Cup 1st Round Nov 1985.
The start of a mini cup run to the 3rd Rd at Goodison Park.
South Liverpool’s last appearance in the competition proper. The Garston based club who played at Holly Park were in the NPL.The club started the careers of a few players.Jimmy Case & John Aldridge spring to mind.
They folded in 1991 due to financial problems that stemmed from their very successful social club being burnt out plus constant break ins & vandalism to the ground.A Phoenix club has arisen that play in Aigburth but no where near the level of the original club.

Pretty sure that was the game Mum hit a particular big and foul mouthed Cardiff fan in the old Grandstand 🤦

Good for her...There were some nasty gits from South Wales there that day.
The first time many of us had seen or heard of the CC Soul Crew.

I've told the story before, but she did warn him twice 😁. We and other City fans were moved out of B block near the end of the game before the seats were "rearranged".

Darren Gale's highpoint for City that game, especially being an ex-Jack.

When you think back to those days, although the St James Rd end was exclusively for away fans from 1978 on.The was nothing in the way of segregation in the grandstand.
