Makes sense when your likely to be moving house again in 2 years time.A lot of players rent.
Wouldn’t say no to ZanzalaCarlisle manager Chris Beech admitting he’s got “a fight on his hands” to hold on to some very good players.
Yep, lots of sense in that. Buy a house (or several !) to be on the housing ladder and let it/them out. Maybe in the area where you expect to settle in due course. Then rent in the area where you are working. Saves all the transaction costs of constantly buying and selling, SDLT etc. Plus avoids all the potential or actual grief of being in a chain where it could take months to buy and sell and where you might already be moving on again before you get settled.Makes sense when your likely to be moving house again in 2 years time.
Won't have been a great career then !!Players from up north in particular can have an entire career without a single home move.
How boring......Don't they want some different life experiences? Let's hope if there's a fish war with France it is fought out in Rochdale : it would be awful if our footballing militia got taken out of their comfort zoneLocation has a massive bearing on where players are willing to sign. Players from up north in particular can have an entire career without a single home move. Gone are the days when the dutiful wife follows the husband wherever their husbands sign, they too have well paid careers and often put the blocks on a player moving areas. Length of contract and value of that contract have a major bearing if a player signs but location is on par with the contract. We all love living in Devon but that is our choice, it's not the choice of everybody including footballers.
Of course, they can put up with these hassles if they have to but the point is that most of the players we are looking at will have choice of clubs to sign for. And, as others have said, if a player is offered an identical contract by us and by Rochdale there are a lot of reasons why Rochdale would make more sense, even if Devon can offer better beaches. We're talking about Div 2 footballers here, not prima donna Premier League blokes.
It should be "have boots, will travel".
Are they so soft that they can't handle around 10 5-hour bus trips per year? Or so meek and insecure that they can't move 3 hours down the motorway for a couple of years? Jesus, many blokes have to move around the country to do their jobs. It's a short career and players have to focus on what's best for them in the footballing sense. Domestic issues can be resolved
Regarding. a footballer's career, why would it be better to play oop North? You think our players don't get noticed at Exeter. Chrisene, Jay Stanno, Stockley, Watkins, Storey were all picked up by other clubs. There have been offers for Williams and even Bowman. And it's rumoured that clubs are interested in Randall. If they're good enough, they'll get noticed or find a club if their contract ends. Exeter is not the end of the line. You could argue that our players stand out more.Of course, they can put up with these hassles if they have to but the point is that most of the players we are looking at will have choice of clubs to sign for.
