Fred Binney was a Torquay reject! You'd be happy to sign a Torquay reject then?
With work already underway at Cressing Road to improve our facilities to meet the Football Association's ground grading requirements for the Club to remain in the Blue Square Bet Premier, the Club have introduced a Ground Development Fund (GDF) to focus all fund-raising efforts towards meeting the expensive cost of the further stadium upgrades. The latest estimate is that we will have to find approximately £175,000 to ensure that the Club are not relegated at the end of the coming season because of the inadequacies of our facilities. The Club will be looking to source the majority of the planned expenditure, but need your help with the GDF and have set a target of £25,000 for the fund. Chairman Lee Harding issued the following plea: "Between us - the supporters and the Board - we secured our ground grading with four days to spare following our promotion from the Ryman League in 2006 and we've a similar battle on our hands now. Your help five years ago made all the difference and your Board are working hard to source funds to cover the cost of the further redevelopment of our ground, but we're going to need some more help! Given the current difficult economic situation, we're all having to be careful with our spending and you all know that it is the Braintree way not to spend what we do not have. But these ground improvements have got to be completed by 31 March next year and there are no ifs and no buts. If we as a Club, as a town, fail - then relegation will come, irrespective of how the team perform on the pitch. But we in the Board Room will do our best to ensure that our facilities pass the tough targets set for us. Since winning the league five weeks ago, we have been working hard with our plans for further development of the ground. We have had a lot of help from Braintree Council and hope to be in a position to lodge the necessary planning applications for all the required improvements in July. Without being over optimistic, we are confident that our planning application will be supported by both the Council and people of Braintree but we then have to make sure we have the money to pay for it all - that's where you can help! Over the coming weeks and months there will be many fund-raising initiative launched and I'd ask you all to help in what ever way you can. If you've a fund-raising idea, come and talk to me or any Club officer. It's our Club - let's make sure we secure our future together!"
