I saw Deano play for England C against Wales (I think) at SJP many years ago.
I don’t recall there being that many in the crowd that evening.
I watched the first half from the Old Grandstand then wandered along the touchline and saw the second from a virtually empty Big Bank.

I always thought the original idea of the 1931 player was to take a bit of a chance on someone our budget wouldn’t otherwise enable us to.
Maybe it’s changed a bit over the years?
Pierce Sweeney was funded through this route (I think) and he’s done all right
