Just binge watched the 3 series of The Crown(the 4th is due in November)
Very good it is too.Not at all what I imagined it would be.A interesting look at some of the momentous moments in the country’s history interspersed with a Royal family that as with most families is far from perfect with a few skeletons in the closet thrown in for good measure.

A fair bit of artistic licence thrown in for the main players no doubt.I expect the characteristics of Prince Phillip were fairly spot on..Not sure about The Queen Mother knocking back G & Ts constantly 😁..Who knows that may be correct 😎

The bit part players in the Royals like Lord Mountbatten who was a thread through all of the series was interesting. As was the depiction of Anthony Eden & Harold Wilson..The latter trying to keep the Republican part of his party in check.

I wonder if the Windsor’s watched ?
I did say you don't have to be a fan of the Royals to watch it, Its more about the "Establishment" or "The Windsors PLC" It is a quality programme.

I was interested in the Harold Wilson & HM relationship. Not the easiest time in the late 1960s &
Mid 1970s for Britain with of course the Aberfan disaster in 1967 too.

The depiction of Ted Heath as a cold PM was spot on from what I remember.

Gotta be honest it was not on my radar.

I did too as not a fan of the Royals but was very pleasantly surprised. The relationship between HM and her PM's was really interesting, Especially thinking that due to rumours he might be a Soviet spy when in fact it was her art expert Blunt? The Palace lacies were interesting too, How they would do almost anything to hide bad things from the Royals and keeping the Windsor name looking good at all times

Yes,Anthony Blunt,he was unmasked by Mrs T in 1979.

In that paranoid Cold War era,Socialists in Parliament were viewed with suspicion by the security service, though the ones from Oxbridge who appeared to be true blue establishment Tories were the real traitors to the country.

Lord Mountbatten what a colourful life to put it mildly especially surrounding his wife & the Indian PM Nearu(sp)
C in C of allied forces SE Asia.Last Viceroy of India,Chief of Staff of the Military, then Harold Wilson gives him the push in the defence review.
To have been a fly on the wall for that meeting.

The part where Mountbatten recites ‘The Road to Mandalay’ & his former comrades join in.

Then he nearly gets caught up in a coup against the government.

Never much liked Uncle Dickie but his murder was tragic and wrong.

Not really. Someone (forget who) ran it past him and he then promptly walked out of the room. As the legend goes.

Tenuous link..My Dad was on HMS Norfolk,a county class Destroyer in 1971/72 when Prince Charles was posted to the ship.
Its home port was Portland when we visited on family days.
