Just checked on the FA website and Nigel Atangana has been suspended for three games. Harsh.

Looking at the tackle on the telly I’m assuming it was a straight red and not a second yellow, and also that it was for violent conduct. If that’s correct then a three match ban would appear the standard punishment.

Listening to MT's comments he seemed to be suggesting there wasnt a deliberate violent element to it, that both players went for the ball with legs outstretched and foot up.

I would have thought dangerous play would suit the crime better than violent conduct.

Its a shame to lose him for 3 games, particularly with how good he'd played recently, but we did ok without him for the first half of the season so I'm sure we'll cope.

Oddly, a 3 game rest at this point of the season may come good for us later.

I prefer to look at the loss of Atananga as a positive for someone else to come in and take their chance. Hopefully it will work out that way but if not then Atangana should return chomping at the bit and producing even better performances. It's a win win. Hopefully. :)

Having built back up to full match fitness, ordinarily a three match ban could be a bit of a setback. However with the Ipswich match, followed by the two Prem U23 Cup games in which presumably he could feature as a permitted overage player, one hopes that his fitness can be maintained.

If he plays against Ipswich on Saturday a two week break before Cambridge will do him no harm at all as long as he’s training fully in between.
