You reckon? What position does Jay play in?
the way I see it (others may have a different view) is that our most effective and frequent formation has been 4-2-3-1.

Jay plays in the middle of the 3 . The best version has been Williams-Jay-Randall behind Bowman. The three have licence to exploit the space around and beyond Bowman

( Ifollow, Radio Devon etc often describe this as 4-4-2)

He sits in the hole directly behind our CF, not alongside

He's still Bowman's forward partner albeit in a slightly withdrawn role.

It's really a four man attacking unit that worked together in the first half of the season, even if Williams wasn't in top form. The three benefitted from Bowman's physicality creating space by pinning the two centre backs, especially with Randall running in behind in the inside left position exploiting a gap between the right back and centre backs. Williams should have done that more on the right then he did. Randall's threat behind creates more space for MJ and Williams to operate in if the defence drops deep to combat it. It also created space for Jake or Archie to move into. It worked as a system unless the whole of the opposition sat deep, then it could be a struggle.

It's more than withdrawn and they do not link up in a traditional strike partnership way, so sorry I don't believe it can be named that.

This is correct. Bowman was up on his own. MT has referenced the fact we play a lone striker when talking about Fisher's failings.

I'd go back to the system we were playing last season, 3-5-2 and have Ajose or Seymour playing with Bowman. Bowman's physicality and work rate would create space that either of the latter could exploit and the width would be provided that any of the three should get a decent service from wider areas. It would also allow for the extra midfielder that Matt craves.
Cheltenham then

But not Cheltenham according to tweet retweeted by a Devon based newspaper.
