Nope. I'm saying I'm surprised that it wasn't noticed that he was putting on weight. The covid break lasted quite a while : find it difficult to believe that the condition of professional athletes was not monitored.
It's not very difficult to have zoom calls with players to see how they were getting on.
Do you want him to stand on the scales whilst he's zooming?

You can have zoom calls with players all day but that doesn't stop them feasting on Pizza and beer every night and not doing the requested exercise regime properly

They also need to have a good level of discipline.
Yes, they do. But if they don't, you need to know that and do something about it. The players are not our enemies - some of them might need support sometimes.
The covid impact also cannot be underestimated - effects different people in different ways, especially when you're stuck inside so much.

Can"t they be zoomed doing their fitness programmes? It is the year 2021, not the medieval period.
And I thought they regularly had covid tests. Couldn't they be weighed then?

Mike,

here is a possible scenario:

Parkes - At home eating pies and drinking beer

ECFC - Come on Tom, get your act together

Parkes - OK chaps, will do, a few hours later he's on Domino's website

ECFC - Tom you are getting out of shape, sort it out

Parkes - OK chaps, I'm onto it, a few hours later he's eating a curry

What next ?

How do you zoom call someone who's on a six mile run?

Mike, I think you just need to accept that during lockdown the players had a responsibility to look after themselves and that Parkes neglected that responsibility. Its the players fault, not the clubs.

The reverse. I've lost 15 kilos during the last twelve months : from a muscular 105 kilos (230 pounds) to a scrawny 90. I keep myself fit, mate.
Even if I secretly buy chocolate cake the missus finds 'em and nicks 'em..:rolleyes:
But if Parkesy put on weight then I can't see how nobody noticed that over the long periods of shutdown.

If Parkes let himself go during lockdown he only has himself to blame, shows a lack of respect to the manager, the club and it's supporters.

No problem with Taylor putting it out there.

People who follow the club cannot moan about a lack of information and then moan about too much information.
So very true we want more information so let’s have good or bad at least we will know about what’s going on
I hate it when a player leaves for a fee then the club says undisclosed we should know we are a fans based club

Agreed, if Parkes let himself go during lockdown as MT has suggested then he only has himself to blame. He was decent for us overall but its probably time for him to move on anyway.

I'm not sure about Paul Jones, I was never a massive fan of his when he was with us previously. He always looked to be half asleep and gave me the impression his next big error was never far away. Perhaps I'm wrong as I don't actually remember any obvious errors from him.

George Friend would be an incredible signing but I fear its a year or two to early for him to drop back down to L2 level and L2 wages. He's still at the top of his game.

The Jake Taylor replacement is crucial and one we must get right. He was such an ever present in the team and always gave a 7+/10 performance every week, so reliable and a real terrier who remained injury free.
The way to get George back is to make him player coach
