P.S I found the film above ‘It’s Not Cricket ‘ on YouTube by searching under Naunton Wayne rather than the title.

News of the World 2020. Tom Hanks. Netflix. No , nothing to do with that old rag newspaper.
Just after the American Civil War , Hanks an ex Confederate captain ( who makes a living reading newspapers to the public from township to township hence the film title) , comes across a wagon which has been attacked and the occupants killed. He finds a young ten year old girl hiding and then finds himself landed with taking her through the rugged landscape to find her relatives.Well done , based on a good story published in 2016 and with a good performance as usual from Hanks. 9/10.
Cracking film, Well worth a watch and the young girl who co-starred with Hanks was a real gem of an actor, Well worth 9/10.

The Remains of the Day (1993). Struggled a bit with the dialogue as it wasn't clear, but Anthony Hopkins was good as the butler Stevens who saw and heard everything in the house but took nothing in. Centres around the lead up to WWII and appeasement (collaboration) with the Germans as was befit of the aristocracy at the time. Post war Stevens sees that it was misguided. Good film if you're not deaf! 7/10.

The Hunt

Wasn't sure what to make of this. It starts off a bit like an x-rated version of the Hunger Games, then the plot thickens about half way through. It ends up like some grudge contest between metropolitan liberal elites and a basket of deplorables. Wasn't really sure what the take away message was. Good in parts, less so in others. Bit of a mixed bag all round.

6/10

Next.

Nicholas Cage is a small time Vegas magician who also has the ability to see two minutes into the future, although only his own future. That is except when the love interest of the film, the lovely Liz, is about and then he can see further ahead for reasons which aren’t explained.

Anyway, the Feds ask him to help them to find a nuclear warhead that terrorists are going to detonate, also for reasons not explained. Wiki says the terrorists are Russian but I’m sure they were speaking French at one point so I guess they must’ve got some help in.

Because he can see into the future we’re treated to lots of snippets where something happens but then it doesn’t actually happen because Cage does something to change the future. There’s also a sequence when it goes low budget Matrix as he dodges lots of things rolling down a hill towards him. Then, at the end, there seems to be a partial reset which means that most of what the viewer has sat through hasn’t happened and won’t happen.

It’s harmless but really not very good. 2/10.

Milk 2008. TThe story of Harvey Milk and his struggles as an American gay activist who fought for gay rights and became California's first openly gay elected official. Interesting story and well worth a watch. 6/10.
