Have Exeter City overtaken the Exeter Chiefs as the No1 Sports Team in Exeter?

So by my rough calculations we've received over 3mn this window which should be enough for two corners ;-)

Am I right in saying that the new covered away end and the new Stanno stand were at the time completely unaffordable by the club?
Yet strangely they were both built. 🤷‍♂️

Probably not even enough to fill the notorious gap at today's costs.

Sold the land behind the big bank in return for building us the new stand?

Indeed. But the successful re-developments were carried out in a timely and, even more importantly, financially prudent manner over a number of years as and when the finance was available internally (no great "external" debt-mountain - save, perhaps, with our own Trust).
And, best of all, unlike some similar re-constructions at other clubs, we did not have to vacate our "home" while the works were going on.

You mean the funding (or the majority of it) for the new stand was enabled by our landlords selling part of the land we rent from them?

To be pedantic, the land was owned by ECC, we surrendered our lease allowing the Council to sell it along with adjacent land which they owned. The developer then providing funds for us as part of the deal.

So not much of a stretch in the future to imagine the club in cooperation with the City Council giving up SJP and allowing the council to sell it on for redevelopment and them providing us with a more suitable ground elsewhere?

During the course of discussions with Drivers Jonas it was established that the Council would give no guarantee that any of the sale proceeds of SJP would be passed over towards sharing with the Chiefs or towards building a new stadium. Hence the only option was to stay at SJP. Times might have changed slightly but ECC help is nowhere near the level of help given by Plymouth City Council to Argyle.

Yeah, wonderful idea, but where do the funds come from to build the 'new stadium' on said 'donated' land? Further, there is barely any available land within the city boundary that would serve to provide a stadium site. East Devon, yes, perhaps, but I just cannot see ECC and EDDC doing any kind of deal. We have been over and over this scenario so many times it's getting tedious now.

If you recall, we were hereabouts in 1994/95. Before that time the club owned SJP, lock stock and barrel. Along came Beazer Homes in our time of desperation and bought SJP. After our rushed and unrealistic new stadium plans failed to gain planning permission, it was ECC who bought it back from Beazer to lease back to us so that we still had a home.
