As mentioned on another thread I was at the National Football Museum in Manchester today.
One of the displays there is the 1863 Football Association Minute Book in which Ebenezer Cobb Morley, it’s first Secretary, devised the game’s original thirteen laws.
One of which was “Neither tripping or hacking shall be allowed, and no player shall use his hands to hold or push his adversary”.
Did anyone tell Tranmere that before Monday’s match?

I always assumed 'hacked down' was a slang term that developed over time.
