Still my favourite away day.(yesterday) 14th Feb 1981 Newcastle utd 1 Exeter City 1, surprised this went under the radar
Went by train. Got home at stupid o'clock the next morning. Journey took hours.Still my favourite away day.
Started with being picked up at the end of Shutterton Lane(opposite Langdon Hospital) by a Coach from Dawlish Coaches at 0500, a brief stop at Exeter Services to pick up a few work colleagues, a 10 minute stop near Derby to change drivers. We were at the A1 Washington Services which was the Coach rendezvous point for the Police escort by 1130. A couple of hours to kill, which were taken in a nearby pub.
What a totally memorable day from the time I
left until getting through the front door after Midnight.
Iirc there were a couple of ‘Football Specials’ from St David’s. A couple of people I knew were on one of them. After the experience returning by a football special from Liverpool a couple of years before, I decided to go by coach.Went by train. Got home at stupid o'clock the next morning. Journey took hours.
