I recall Matt stating it was a marquee signing but cant remember anything about money aside from we paid for him rather than a loan fee as he had a year left on his MK contract
What do we ever know about how much new signings are paid? We paid a fee (undisclosed) for Nombe, he is probably on a decent wage. But we don't know for certain. For Matt to say he is a marquee signing is to suggest he has cost a bit more than others, that's all.
You are probably correct in your overview. We must have paid a 'significant' amount for MK to forego the option of a loan fee. The fee is anyones guess which is why I was curious that someone said we had broke our transfer record

No not let slip particular players , let slip the comment about ‘ marquee’ players or whatever you’d call them that he intended to sign.
Always a difference in what you want to do and what actually happens. To be fair, Matt did say that it was as good a budget as WE have had before so it was all relative. We have probably put very good contracts (in our terms) in front of very good players (at this level) which we haven't been able to before. That doesn't mean they are obliged to sign them unfortunately
