I thought there was a deal with BBC/BT already?
Presumably only for this season. Premier League signs up deals well in advance.

Fair enough, I don't watch it anyway just thought i remembered there was a deal recently signed, Any deal won't be as big as the £5bn the men's game gets.

Definitely not. It will be an increase no doubt and that will keep growing as long as the interest does until it peaks. At the moment, I doubt the broadcasters will want too many 9-0's and 1-9's each weekend. It will take time for a strong body of teams to develop a bit closer together in resource and competitiveness, it's more diverse than the SPL at the moment. The way it's going though it is looking like those clubs with money to spare (IE Premier League) will be the ones at the top table.

Unlike the men's game, The women's national team have got to at least get to quarter/semi final stages in most competitions, Hope fully winning a few along the way. The domestic league is poorly supported and televised (At the moment) although its good various players are coming in from around the world but if the crowds stay like they are and exposure and interest wains then those players will leave, Could be a pivitol moment in the women's game now.

It will definitely be an increase because up to now the FA has given the WSL to the BBC and BT for free. Back in March the FA started consulting with media rights management specialists Women’s Sport Group to put the rights to show matches out to tender. Recently there have been deals struck to show the WSL overseas but I haven’t heard anything about a domestic deal yet.

A decent domestic TV deal I'd thought should be first to conclude.

Deals have already been done with USA and Canadian broadcasters (and maybe others) to show live matches. Putting UK rights behind a paywall might kill interest if it is done to soon.

Is the rise to prominence of the women's game at the top end bad for a smaller club like Exeter City (men and women)?

There's only so much airtime and column inches you can devote to football in all it's guises and I'd argue where close to saturation point right now.

A deal has to be available to the most people, Let Sky/BT/Amazon have any exclusive deal it would be a non-starter, I think a free to air channel should have part of it.

At the moment, the national team is the more high profile product within England in the women's game unlike the men's where it is the PL. The WSL are now trying to grow and are banking on a lot of high profile signings coming in to raise the standard and profile.

The danger is of course that England will suffer just as the men's game did with the PL and overload of foreign players. The FA have seemed to move quickly though and agreed with the clubs that 8 homegrown players have to be in the squad of 25, although whether that's enough is subjective. I'd have a higher number. It's a fine balance between a higher standard improving our players and enough of our players actually playing.
