We should deliberately delay their development until they're 16 and on a contract and then train the shit out of them to make them proper players, and ours!
Jack Sparkes was with the backing of the 1931ersTrouble is the Premiership club are getting smarter, more arrogant & greedier all the time. We can't offer a professional contract to one of our academy players until he's 16, I believe, so all that the likes of Chelsea have to do is identify the real gems & lure them away before they reach that age. With the success rate of our academy, they'll soon have a minibus parked up & waiting at the Cat & Fiddle.
Ollie Watkins wasn't setting the world alight at that age & to some extent he came through under the radar, likewise Archie Collins. Hopefully some of the current young pro's will similarly make an impact now that we've got them signed up. But with the likes of Ben Chrisene we can only hope that they do 'the decent thing' by us, in the same way Ethan did or better still sign a contract like Jack Sparkes did.
When frustrated spiritualist John Varley asked William Blake whether he'd ever seen a spirit, Blake answered that the ghost of a flea was, at that very moment, confronting him. Varley, stunned, asked if Blake could describe the apparition to him. Blake declined, but offered instead to paint a likeness of the spook, there & then. He requested Varley's patience, whilst he nipped round the back to the hall, in order to tuck the curtains in.Nipping round the back and tucking them in!

This is very nearly a true story.
(Noel Blake is not related to William Blake)
Noel Blake and William Blake not related? That's a shame. Great if they were. ...and did those feet in ancient time...
