When Was Your First City Match and Who was Your First Idol?

My first Exeter City match was on 30th January 1993, a 0-1 home defeat to Blackpool. I think Dave Bamber scored the goal for Blackpool. I had to wait for the next game against Stockport County to see my first City goal by Alan Tonge.

    Wigan - Saturday 10 February

Yes, if you are travelling from London (Wigan North Western station is on the west coast mainline). If it helps you or anyone else avoid having to remortgage their house or sell one of their kidneys, advance tickets for travel on 10th February 2024 were released for sale by Avanti West Coast today.

    Question for the stattos

Objection sustained. I will change my “have” for the pluperfect “had” for the sake of factuals, or at least I would have done were editing permitted.

    Question for the stattos

Yesterday was Exeter City's twelfth match at Adams Park (I was at every single one of them - do I win a prize?!) and I am fairly certain that Jack Aitchison's goal was the first time we have scored a goal when kicking towards the home end at Adams Park. All of our other goals have been in front...

It was 20 years ago today

I remember the match against Southend vividly. My brother and I travelled down on the train from London and wandered into Exeter Cathedral when we got there because it felt like the right thing to do before we headed over to the cathedral of football. The weather that day was not particularly...

    City v Scarborough - 26 November 1994

I remember this match against Scarborough well - Stuart Storer's fine fifth goal for City, Andy Woodman getting sent off for punching David D'Auria and the stadium announcer running through the names of the Scarborough team followed by the names of the three Scarborough fans who had turned up in...

    Next season on the road.

Wealdstone play at Ruislip Manor's old Grosvenor Vale ground. It is only a few minutes' walk from Ruislip station and also easily walkable from Ruislip Gardens or Ruislip Manor stations. It is the only ground I know of with a World War II gun turret in one corner.

    A great day out

Here are South Yorkshire's finest awaiting the inevitable pitch invasion that day, as well as another couple of snaps.

    City pictures

A couple of photos from our memorable 3-1 win against Charlton Athletic at the Valley ten years ago (as mentioned in the 'on this day' thread). That's an awful lot of soon-to-be-disappointed Addicks!

    Exeter City on this day

Another abandoned match was away to Dagenham & Redbridge in December 2008, that one due to floodlight failure. The Grecians were losing 1-0 at the time but won the rearranged match 2-1 (I really should post the fuse back to them, it's been twelve years).

What year did you first watch or take a interest in The Grecians ?

My first game was a 1-0 home defeat to Blackpool on 30th January 1993. Dave Bamber scored for Blackpool if I remember rightly. I was not hooked straight away but went to the next home league game against Stockport County to see if City played as badly every week. Luckily they were much better...

    ECFC Face Masks

Just wanted to say thank you Craig for the masks I ordered in your last batch. I have been wearing one on the buses and Tubes to and from work in the last week or so and look quite the man about town, if I say so myself. I can sense my fellow commuters enviously trying to work out whether I...

    Grecians on TV

By a sheer fluke I caught Scot Bennett's goal on camera when taking a not-very-good photo of the home stand. You can see the ball hitting the back of the net just behind the Oxford defender on the line.

    Goal of the day thread

It was Paul Jones to Steve Flack to Gareth Sheldon to Lee Phillips. That was sheer delightful football!

    The Alan Tonge Interview

I dug out a programme from that season and it gives John Hodge as the other scorer for City in the Reading game. I was not at that game but I had seen us lose 1-0 to Blackpool in the previous home game, my first visit to the home of football.

    The Alan Tonge Interview

I make you right, he also scored in the Autoglass Trophy game against Reading a few days before the Stockport game. City won it on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
