The Champions League stats are a nonsense to draw comparisons with. When Maradona played it was a straight knock out competition over two legs each round not a guaranteed six games every season.
161 vs 7 🤣🤣🤣

So you think maradona achieved more than Messi?

it comes down to how you define greatness - yes messi has sustained a higher level over a longer period of time, but i'm not sure you could say he eclipsed the standards set by maradona at his very peak, especially when considering the quality of pitches and other issues mentioned above

I nearly felt sorry for the French there with the amount of time they waited to get thier runners up medals

How long has Messi had to wait to win a World Cup? How many World Cup Finals has Messi played in? Have you ever seen Messi drag Argentina kicking and screaming through any competition when the chips are down like Maradona did in 1990? Greatness is not always measured in statistics but I'll give you one that kills this argument stone dead.................

........ 1958 World Cup, Winner. 1962 World Cup, Winner. 1970 World Cup, Winner. When the whole world, and that is the whole world not just the footballing world, thought he was living his last few days a couple of weeks back it was ready to mourn his passing such is his greatness.

I give you Edson Erantes de Nascimento......... Pele. Unsurpassed by Maradona and barely tickled by Messi.

End of.

Nah, Pele was overrated. All his famous highlights show him missing the goal (Banks header, step over dummy and shot put wide, etc).

Messi takes a dump and wipes his arse with Pele.

And you’re right, greatness isn’t always measured in statistics, unless the statistics are overwhelming.

Always hard to make comparisons across the generations but Messi’s stats are compelling
