1968,went with my late uncle Ernie, who used to go to greyhound racing at the country ground, and always used to come over on a Friday with money for sweets, for me and my sister,i remember him saying to my dad,I am going up the city tomorrow, does the boy want to come, that was it,we went and I was hooked,I think it was Workington town or someone,I can’t remember, but I was hooked, and in January 1969,we queued up for Man Utd tickets, and needless to say alan banks was the first hero!

Wondering if I'm on a different planet
1948 City -v-Notts County. Went to see Tommy Lawton and was disappointed that he didn't play! First time I had watched City, but became as regular as I could with the limited pocket money available at the time. City hero at the time became Ray Goddard - no nonsense centre half.

There was a lot of disappointment that day. According to my mother, the suspicion was that ECFC knew Lawton wasn't playing and had suppressed the news so as to ensure a bumper gate at SJP ! :)

I think Pierce Sweeney might be getting to legend status. I haven't known any other player play as long with us than him.
Behave yourself. Longevity does not constitute Legendary status.

Like Pete, whose hero was a ‘keeper, nice for a defender to know he could be a young lad’s hero back then ! Not so common nowadays.

1962/63, but can't remember the game. Went with my Dad and Granddad.

Arnold Mitchell was one of my favourites, and I was honoured to play in a golf match with him years later. He didn't score many, but one was a thunderbolt from thirty yards, I believe in a 3-0 win against Crewe. He remembered it of course.

But my favourite player had to be Alan Banks, such a fine and wholehearted footballer. My best Banks memory was when he stepped over a John Corr cross, fooled the keeper and saw it run into the corner of the net: genius.

We sat in the front row of the old grandstand, very much where the linesman would often stand. Another season ticket holder who sat near us was very funny and would spend most of the game hilariously and ( gently ) abusing the linesman. In those days the programme would show where the linesman came from, and our resident comedian could always adopt the appropriate accent. On many occasions, the linesman was laughing at least as much as we all were.

1-3 v Man Utd Jan 1969.

Lots of heroes through the 70’s - Fez Parker, John Wingate, Fred Binney and Dick Plumb, Bob Wilson…… before Kells arrived and wrote his own chapter of City history

Boxing Day 2007 beating Torquay 4-3 after Danny Seaborne was given his marching orders.

Idol that day Jamie Mackie. And the blonde lady in the family stand serving the coffee and doughnuts. :)

Villain of the day: Tim Sills
😳

I'd always assumed you'd been around since the 60s/70s 😃

'Early 90s' for me. No idea what my first match was 😔

Idols were Stuart Storer, Danny Bailey and Gerald the steward in front of the Big Bank
