That said, I do agree with the wider point your making. Not least the salary, which is pitiful for such an important role.
Yet the same people go on about Council chiefs salaries when they are in charge of 1000's of people and just as an important role.

I understood it was a contractor's system that had been hacked not the MODs.
SSCL was set up as a joint venture between the UK Cabinet Office and Paris listed Sopra Steria.
In September last year the government's remaining 25% stake was sold (or "gifted"??) to the French company, making it wholly owned subsidiary.
Sound like another resounding triumph for privatisation and "externalisation" to foreign players In the name of so-called "efficiencies". 🙄
It almost as if Brexit never happened.

Quelle surprise.

But yeh, in the eyes of the culture warriors it'll be 'wokeisms' fault. This culture wars ******** is very useful for for the rich and powerful, innit? Funny that.

I don't have an issue with high salaries as long as they are earned and the job is fulfilling a necessary function. As in all things in life you only get what you pay for. I do get the impression though that some of the people who hold these top jobs are not really that good and cronyism comes into the selection. This is not confined to the public sector.

Think the useless Paula Vennells and her grotesque remuneration packages including so called performance bonuses.

A Tory MP for Dover (Don't know the name) has crossed the floor to defect to Labour today just before PMQ's.

I agree Al.
But the endlessly spinning "revolving door" between public and private sectors for the lucky few at the top has proved remarkably useful in leveraging their remuneration packages upwards.

She will join a long list of soon forgotten defectors. Cannot see Labour putting her up as a candidate in a winnable seat.

Maybe so.
But if the recent trickle of Tory defectors (both to "port and to "starboard" becomes a flood poor little Rishi! might even achieve his forecast of a hung parliament BEFORE the GE. 🤣
