While at Paignton railway station last Monday, I got close-up look at two of Dartmouth Steam Railway's locomotives. Stood at the platform were 6023 King Edward 2nd and 75014 Braveheart. The King Edward was finished in blue while Braveheart (built in Swindon in 1951) was beautifully clean and polished in the old British Rail Black with red piping.
6023 has been on hire there since the end of May, and was due to return home to Didcot this week, (although that could possibly be extended due to serious motion repairs needed to their own Lydham Manor.

A planning application for a new Marsh Barton station is expected to be submitted early next year, now that the costs have been brought down.

This has been talked about for years, so we'll see what happens. Makes sense to have one there.

It makes sense in helping reducing traffic in to Exeter.

The problem they've had to deal with is that it's a high speed line, so safety has been an issue.

Trouble is that there is an election before then. Once the dust has settled from that what's the betting that most of these "promises" get kicked back into the long grass for another 5 years (regardless of who gets it)?

I don't think we need to worry about that. It'll have because Network Rail are committed to it.

They were before, but the "pot of money" allocated by the Government was so small, that Marsh Barton lost out in the scramble that was the bidding process. Network Rail can say that they are "committed" about whatever they like, but it's no more than "A hill of beans" unless the Government actually stumps up the cash !

Network Rail are about to be renationalised, so they can commit to anything they like, it means jack.

Now, now Stroudy.
Network Rail have been, and remained, "nationalised" right from it's inception in 2002 - when the investors in the criminally discredited Railtrack PLC grabbed their blood money and scarpered back to their respective tax havens.

Think there may be real progress in getting a couple of new stations in the South West, Wellington and Cullompton. DfT announcement earlier today.
