I had a pen pal forced upon me when i was about 15. It was a girl in Australia who was some relative of an elderly neighbour so i couldn't really say no. It didn't last long, thankfully, as it was all too much like hard work.
I should have thought that ought to have been very interesting.

A Yay or Nay if its not too impertinent to ask ?

Did she think Lionel was a very British name ?

Was she called Sheila ?

I can't remember anything about her other than that she was about the same age. I'm pretty sure she wasn't called Sheila, mind.

It's very difficult trying to communicate with someone you've never met by letter and, frankly, at 15 i had better things to do.

Can you be certain that you didn't miss out on something big there?
After all she could have been the heiress to a gold-mine in the outback and all she needed was for you to send her a few thousand pounds to cover the assaying costs of the finds and you could have been in for a 50.50 split!

This publication sticks in my mind as being on the top shelf in the mags section in Smiths in the late 60's

The political version soon after that would have been Heath and Inefficiency.

Sharing a shelf with Nude Statesman and Privates Eye I presume?
(Wouldn't have bought any of them myself. Never a purchaser - merely a Spectator)
