Like many fans the idea of swopping teams seams totally alien to me. However, I can easily imagine, if my club was run by a charlatan (or two) I could very easily take my custom elsewhere, although ECFC would always be the first result I would look for. I think Exeter City are well placed to be lots of peoples second team because of our ownership model. Frustrating as the model may be to some people.

One of my work colleagues has recently started attending Exeter matches with his primary school aged son. He has moved to the west country for work and has always support his home town club. He is full of praise for the way the club is run and the level of fan engagement. His child is now an Exeter fan. I don't know if he will ever think of ECFC as 'his' team but his son is a recent convert so the club gets two extra people through the gate.

Welcome to City and take certain comments made by others with a pinch of salt :) You aren't alone in your journey to become a City fan. I know of several on here keeping quiet who supported other clubs but moved to Exeter for work or University and became regulars at SJP.
Thank you SaintJames. I also know of others who have switched. I don’t take the comments with a pinch of salt as I respect peoples views, after all that is what a fans forum is, a place where people can voice your feelings isn’t it? Incidentally I wasn’t born in Torquay in fact it was Exeter but my parents and then work ties took me to Torbay. Believe me it wasn’t an easy decision to ‘switch’ but living and socialising with City fans ‘persuaded’ me it was the right decision, and believe me I am really enjoying it. I do still ‘support’ Torquay from afar and it is really disappointing to see how far they have slid (mostly down to an owner not interested in football I suspect). Think City is lucky to have ‘owners’ who support the club!

Lots of people who attend SJP might "Support" a bigger club in the PL or Championship, Nothing wrong with that and with the PL on our screens so many times a week and all the papers/media filled with news about them its no surprise is it but to swap a team because they're on hard times or you dislike the owners etc just seems to me alien, Its different if you move to a totally different area and like football and there is a league team near or your kids pester you to go and then you think "Yeah, This was enjoyable" but to disown a club you support, Nah not for me. When i moved here i went to watch Eastleigh a couple of times, When Torquay or an ex league club visited, Been to St Marys in Southampton to watch them play, Mainly because it was a Sunday and i had some spare time but i watched as a neutral and never once did i think this is me now i will support those teams.

I look forward to when City play, Reading the Matchday thread on here when its either meltdown because we are losing or lost, The estatic times when we win/got promoted, Absolutly love Exeweb and all that goes with it, Only time Ive read a Torquay forum is when there is a link here or someone there has posted something that has got me boiled. Why should he take some comments with a pinch of salt? To me its like when the user Legohead (Before he was banned) was on here, He went through "Supporting" all the SW teams and others, Really couldn't take his comments seriously, Even in the depths of R&L ownership this was still my club.

Suppose it is up the individuals, but I would never sway from supporting or watching City. Been in my blood since 1995. As Geoff says it helps us with additional fans etc.

But it is concept beyond me how people can flip between sides so easily.
I haven’t flipped easily as I have stated. Surely it is in City’s interest to increase the fan base and it doesn’t really matter how that happen? Project 6000 and all that!

Here and there
The reasons why folk come to a particular football club are myriad. I doubt, even now, we have a core of maybe 2k - 2.5k fervent dedicated fans. Many just like live football, for some, City are their second team, some are regulars, some are casual.

I know of one young man whose first team is Watford. He also follows and supports Dorking (he used to live 'up that way') but now comes to watch City quite often, with his brother.

All are welcome!

You don’t switch Clubs when the going gets tough. If you are thinking about ’supporting’ Exeter on the back of a promotion season you clearly know nothing about our past! I wouldn’t support anyone else. You stick with your team through thick and thin for ever……

I have lived in the City long enough so believe me I do know about City’s past and I haven’t started supporting on the back of a promotion season! Maybe I should just put my head back below the parapet and not encourage others to support the club 😏

Former fans of other clubs are welcome here as far as I'm concerned however people who used to support us and have slunk off somewhere else can do one.

I do love some of the holier than thou comments on here. I'm not a lifelong supporter. I started watching city after our old division 4 championship winning season. I supported Liverpool as a kid.Plenty of our fans have ditched city for the chiefs or whatever. The more we get at games, the merrier.

Fair shout. I am sure it is a tough one, but look, I am happy to have more in the stadium and tbh as long as all of the ones in the home end are there to support City, I personally do not care whether you supported Torquay previously or Liverpool etc.

Just that I couldn't switch sides in almost any position we ended up in. SJP and City are my blood.

More the merrier.
