Interesting development at one of our fellow trust owned clubs and maybe pertinent to our situation going forward.
The Trust up there sells 52% of the club to the fella who dramatically transformed Swansea City’s fortunes a few years back admitting they are making losses and need investment.

Big news. Will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

Hope it goes well for them.

If it does, it will only prove that it was wise to sell to that particular investor, of course.

I hope they've inserted a 'buy-back' clause if it doesn't go well. They're now just another club dependent on the whim of a rich investor.

Been there, done that.

Who was that then?

Ah yes Huw Jenkins, one the "dedicated Swansea fans" who subsequently went and succumbed to the lure of the dollar and sold out to Americans, who once the parachute payments ran out, aren't exactly investing in the Club as it subsides back down to earth. Interesting that the first thing that the Yanks tried to do was get rid of the Swans Trust's 20% shareholding iirc !

Rich people are 'rich' for a reason. Ignoring inherited wealth, they are rich because they have made investments that, overall, have generated a decent return. So, unless they've got to the stage in their life when they no longer need more wealth AND have a particular love for Exeter City, they will be looking to make profit out of their investment.

Where Is the 'profit' to be made from owning a club like Exeter? If none, then we become a rich man's toy ; to be discarded when the shine rubs off after Christmas.

Why is it always 'we are making losses and need investment' and never 'we are making losses and need to cut back our spending even it means we end up dropping a division or two?'

If we get a new ground out of it and a couple years in the championship who cares if the shine rubs off and we're back to trust ownership?

Because you then make more of a loss from smaller gates, no EFL or premiership money, lower TV money, lower FA Cup prize money, no funding and little protection for academy players, players can be poached easier..... I mean it's so simple just dropping a few divsions.
