When people say 'here here' do they actually mean 'hear hear'? I've never been quite sure which way it should be spelt.

I was always led to believe it's 'here here', as in 'I'm in agreement with you over here'. Would that be right?

I've always thought it was "hear, hear", as in I hear you and agree with you.

It is "hear, hear". It's short for "hear him, hear him".

See that's the way that I was leaning Ant, just that it might also be 'hear hear', as in 'I hear you'.
