That was a stupid thing to say. If no striker now arrives he has left the door open to be ritually slaughtered. Any club or agent in negotiation now has just increased the asking price.
And if he'd said he was 'extremely hopeful' of getting a striker in he'd have got absolute pelters. That aside, not convinced the price we pay for a striker will be dictated by GC's choice of adverbs!

Remembering 2007 when Mackie left for Slime, this place was in meltdown then as well. Think Tisdale put in a half-hearted £80k bid for James Constable at Oxford, no deal (probably just as well). Exeweb was very busy until the last minute of the transfer window but nothing happened.
Me and Pol tice recited the old Monty Python "A Minute Passed" sketch.
Happy days!
Mackie left in 2008...

The difference being when Mackie left we still had Logan, Stanno & Basham as recognised strikers then we brought Ben Watson in before the end of the season so we weren't short of attacking options.

We all know what happened this year, Nombe left leaving us with Scott & Cox...

All this talk of strikers made me think of dear old Trevor Morgan. Things could always be worse...

We will end up with a young striker in on loan (if we have not reached our loan limit that is) and a Scottish striker none of us have ever heard of, and who has a worse scoring record than Scott.

Don't get all the anti young player/anti Scottish stuff. Our better players have been young loanees or from the Scottish leagues. A striker of equivalent quality to Demetri Mitchell or Vil Sinisalo would be absolutely fine by me

He shouldn't be worried about 'pelters' and what the fans think. Don't weaken your position in a negotiation because you may get some stick on an Internet forum ffs.

In the absence of action, people will pore over the throwaway words of the manager and honchos like it's the Kabbalah.

Was above our usual standard back then first time around, with nine goals in 27 appearances [courtesy of the Grecian Archive], but nowhere near the same level when he returned a few years later.
