While Sam hasn't started every game, he's made 34 appearance this season and I can't see that he's been out injured for any significant length of time [this year or last]:

Looks to me like he may have missed three or four weeks at the turn of the year but that's about it and, moreover, doesn't seem excessive for a no-nonsense centre-half.
