Exactly 100 years ago on this date 28th August 1920 the Grecians played their first game in the Football League in the newly formed Division Three.
The Grecians beat Brentford at SJP 3-0

The new division was formed from the 21 clubs in the Southern League First Division(A professional full
time league) plus Grimsby Town.
Any exewebbers go? :)

Interesting fixture list that season:

Teams didn't have to wait long to try and do the double

And we were still in the FA Cup in January!

2015..A visit to the Crown Ground..I will avoid the obvious puns about the stadium name now.
Always a great day out as was this despite the result(lost 4-2)
Cheered me up this morning thinking back to the great away trips with good people in this surreal time for football supporters.

The Grecians first ever visit to Leeds Rd was a happy one.Fred from memory,I think your godfather scored(I do not have my bibles to check 😎)
Huddersfield had been in Division One as recently as 1971/72.

In 1976,losing 1-0 at Aldershot,it looked like 3 defeats on the spin in the 4th Division(also lost a FAC replay at Southend in late November)
A bit of luck, the floodlights at The Recreation Ground failed in the 88th minute & despite the on duty electrician trying to resolve the issue the game was abandoned about a hour later.

The Grecians then went 12 unbeaten after this(the re arranged game was 2-2 with John Templeman scoring the equaliser in the last minute)
Rare for abandoned games over the years.
Grimsby 1972(a)Fog.Shrewsbury 1991(h) waterlogged pitch.Swansea 1992(h) Floodlight failure) FGR(h) 2018 waterlogged pitch.The ones I can recall.
