Not much, the EDL are less concerned about their public profile, so basically they are where the BNP was twenty or so years ago, whether one is the tool of the other is open to debate, I am not sure the leaders of each actually knows what the SoP is.

The EDL will grow as an activist organisation over the next few years, the BNP will decline to form a rump which may then fold itself into whatever the EDL has become.

These are not facts, merely my opinions based on a passing interest.

and I think the the EDL is more religion based (ie. anti-islamic) wheras the BNP is more concerned with Immigration and the like, which the EDL couldn't give a t*ss about.

The primary difference - from what little I can ascertain - is that the EDL do not see themselves in any way to be a racist organisation. [Not that the 21st century BNP are. Ahem]. They see themselves simply as a force against extremist islamists.
That may, of course, be a smokescreen...
