The classic test match win. Bat big in the first innings, get a big lead, set up a run chase giving yourself plenty of time and win. Big performance all round with the batsmen to get the runs on the board and the bowling attack to get 20 wickets, something we have struggled with in the past in the subcontinent. Every bowler did their job in spells. Bess and Leach covered each other, Archer started the bowling off on the front foot in the first innings and had good aggression, especially towards Ashwin. As soon as there is some sideways movement, Jimmy is in there, great spell with reverse swing and that cutter to get Pant.

Those two tests in Sri Lanka look a very smart move now for preparation. India went one down is Australia and came back fighting. Still a tough battle ahead but a great win to begin with.

Pulsating day today. Had everything except a run out. England have a tough ask already though and barring a sudden monsoon, a draw seems out of the question.

The third umpire is clearly someone Kohli met in the team hotel last night.

Plenty of spin in that track already.

India on top IMO

Yep, with 300 on the board already, they could be well-placed on a turning wicket.

I'd recommend a points deduction for a sub-standard pitch, mind. ;)

Jack Leach thought it was like Taunton in some respects 😉.

Obviously need to get Pant out quickly to have any chance but that partnership between Rohit and Rahane looks like the key already to the test along with the toss. The third umpire was fortunate that his decisions in the end didn't cost England too much. Hopefully Root got an apology as it looked like he was told the glove was checked by the on field umpire when clearly it wasn't.

One particular bright spot (apart from Moeen knocking over Kohli, can't Rohit just tell him to get off and stop embarrassing himself!) was Ollie Stone. Good with the new ball and it looks like another option when rotating Archer and Wood.
