Agreed; he's still learning, and it's always a risk for the CH when the LB and LM are upfield (look at their positions on the video) and a fast ball come over the top. Also, for some reason it seems to look worse when it's a left footed player.
He seems to have learnt the big hoof to clear the ball off of Rory which I like because it’s very effective at clearing danger, it complements his game very well because he’s got a very good pass in his armour when the opportunity arises to play it.

Hartridge had a good game yesterday and it was very noticeable that he was not diving in on challenges in the box like earlier in the season. I think he has come on so much this season. As for Seymour remember MJ a couple of seasons ago and the stick he got for not being good enough. Give him another season

Seymour is going to need a stonking preseason if he’s to find himself in the starting lineup come August, and by that I mean goals!!

And possibly a change in formation. Playing up front by yourself is not something every striker can do well. Remember a striker like Cureton had either Logie, O'Flynn or Nardiello with him to share the load and Curo was far more experienced.

Of our four first team squad strikers, we have one who has the capability of doing it in Bowman. Seymour is being a bit hung out to dry because he is the next best option to fill this role after Bowman in the squad. That should be a damning indictment on the two more senior pro's. Seymour has done this role a bit in the u23's and led the line at Dorchester with good success. L2 is another level though and it will take more time as it did for Tom Nichols.

Edit: To get back on topic 😉, Alex has shown the benefit of coming in and out of the side and learning from his mistakes, simplifying his game. He is also playing alongside a very experienced partner. Now he has the place on merit and is starting to show the potential he had from the u23 games and on his loan spells.

It would take a brave man to hang his hat on Seymour coming good 😉...back on Alex like you say he’s been a quick learner.

He might come good, he might not. He hasn't yet shown for the first team what he has shown in the u23's or out on loan or, presumably, in training. We have had players like that before who eventually came good after a while (Nichols, MJ) and those who didn't and moved on (Reid, Shepherd).

Alex has the advantage of playing and learning in a situation to his advantage with an experienced centre back partner. Ben is trying to make a mark in a situation that probably doesn't play to his strengths (for those who have seen him play and do well outside the first team) and highlights parts of his game that he is trying to improve.

You may well be right that he’s not being played to his strengths, but ultimately he’ll be judged on his goal return which was my original comment...as we know scoring goals is the hardest thing to do in football....as yet when played in the first team he hasn’t looked anything like doing that apart from his one goal at Colchester....hopefully next season he’ll finally make the breakthrough that we all hope!

Hartridge has improved playing alongside McArdle but he could also learn a lot playing alongside Parkes and Sweeney as all have good traits.

Learning his trade from all of them would also give him extra confidence and self belief that he has some pace!

It's quite incredible that in one season THREE academy players have come in, performed so well, and become our most valuable assets .
I don't know what our academy's secret is, but it's a good one
