When they came to SJP as leaders of L2 some years ago they only brought around 54 fans, maybe 1 or 2 more but a very poor turnout for the then league leaders.I think Burton will be looking for a relatively cheap replacement. When Nigel Clough resigned in the early stages of the pandemic they replaced him with a player-manager, Jake Buxton. Clough's decision was said at the time to have saved a number of jobs elsewhere at the club as they'd been hit hard, not only by the shutdown of football, but also the fact that their business model involved the Pirelli being used for conferences, weddings and suchlike.
While the Hasselbaink (re)appointment was fairly high profile I suspect he wasn't on a huge salary - I believe he had an agreement with their owner that he wouldn't have to pare back his media work when he took on the role.
I'd argue they're a club punching above their weight in Leauge One and suspect it's made a tougher gig on the basis of their spell in the Championship. They were only averaging around 4,500 crowds in the second tier.
Especially for someone who was once replaced by a Taylor. That would be a bit of a comedown from Ted Baker...
the last few weeks have certainly been a window to watch...That would be a bit of a comedown from Ted Baker...
Ah, John not Norman.the last few weeks have certainly been a window to watch...
Nah, I remember the predicted Harry Kewell ‘new manager bounce’ when he joined Notts County. We battered them.New manager bounce incoming on Saturday 17th?
Here are the highlights from that game (64 away fans). But as you mentioned very poor. When they came to SJP as leaders of L2 some years ago they only brought around 54 fans, maybe 1 or 2 more but a very poor turnout for the then league leaders.
That pier at Southwold is bonkers. Southwold is of course also home to Adnams brewery. It’s only about half an hour from Ipswich to Sutton Hoo and that’s very nice.
Plus about the same again to Southwold on the coast.
If you’re ever there check out Tim Hunkin’s Under The Pier Show (an arcade of weird games and inventions).
I’m planning a trip to the Ipswich area for the end of next April.
I’ll probably take in a football match too!
