Definition of party, as per the Merriam-Webster dictionary, considered as one of the very best English Language dictionaries

: a social gathering
According to the Tavy-Jinx dictionary (considered as one of the most dubious sources) it's only a party if it's a socialist gathering.

A damming report on the British withdrawal from Afghanistan is published by the all party Foreign Select Committee, It says it was a disaster and betrayal which will damage the nations interest for years, All three main protagonists were on leave at the time (Johnson, Raab and top Civil Servant in the FO Sir Phillip Barton) Wonder which of those three will get the most flack?
I fear Dominic Raab is no Lord Carrington

“The fact that the Foreign Office’s senior leaders were on holiday when Kabul fell marks a fundamental lack of seriousness, grip or leadership at a time of national emergency. At several key stages in the evacuation there seemed to be no clear line of command within the political leadership of the government, as decisions were made on the basis of untraceable and unaccountable political interventions.”

The report found there was a “total absence of a plan for evacuating Afghans who had supported the UK mission, without being directly employed by the UK government, despite knowing 18 months before the collapse of Afghanistan that an evacuation might be necessary”. It added: “The hasty effort to select those eligible for evacuation was poorly devised, managed and staffed; and the department failed to perform the most basic crisis-management functions.

“The lack of clarity led to confusion and false hope among our Afghan partners who were desperate for rescue. They, and the many civil servants and soldiers working hard on the evacuation, were utterly let down by deep failures of leadership in government.”

Man drinking holds glass with alcohol in it. Hold the front page. Lolz.

Getting beyond desperate now.
All BJ has to do is deploy the Starmer defence that he went back to work afterward and he’s in the clear Jinx.
Nothing to see here! 😎

Absolutely the right question to put. (y)

Marmalade, jam or lemon curd especially if home made or honey.

Marmite is produce of the devil as far as this particular lover of fine food is concerned. The assault on the palate is most disturbing, but each to his own.

Fire toast for breakfast in Dishoom Covent Garden over Easter was really good with unlimited spicy chai. Charred chunky slices of bread with spicy preserves.

Other Indian eateries available of course
Spicy preserves too much for this palate first thing in the morning. Much more of a Frank Cooper thick cut man myself.👍

No, of course there is absolutely no difference between having a bottle of beer with your meal and attending a well organised pi$$ up. You are ridiculous

I hear you are researching into the fascinating topic of the sex life of the infamous 3-legged long-haired ant. I wait in anticipation..

Are you referring to Ant of this parish ? :)

As the top civil service mandarins have told us WFH is very efficient and they want to work from abroad to suit their life style needs did Raab’s exact location make any difference ?

Just a thought

It seems your confusing annual leave and not needing to be in Afghanistan, here Ali.

I'll explain, Raab, Johnson and Barton were off on a jolly holiday (not together, they all hate each other) and whilst Afghanistan was falling it seemed none of them wanted to pick up the phone and sort it out. Leaving the remaining team in the UK and the military in Afghanistan rudderless.

If (as an example) Raab picked up the phone, he potentially could have coordinated a better response. There was no need to be in Afghanistan for this, because there's no real need to be in an office in Afghanistan. Besides, the people he'd be speaking to were in both the UK, and Afghanistan and much as I'm sure Mrs Raab and his two children think he's a superman, he doesn't have the ability to be in two countries, so far apart, at once.

So in short, everyone was on holiday (that's a silly mistake, but it happens) no one would help (again silly, and shouldn't happen) and no one else was senior enough to do anything worthwhile.
In terms, of where any of them were they could easily have provided some steer, proving that working anywhere in the world is possible.

Here to help 🙂
