Interesting weekend for the Grand Old Duke of York. No idea why he thought doing the TV interview was a good idea. Wonder if Mum will disinherit him, or that this is considered normal behaviour by princes?

My information is that Her Majesty has no problem with pizza takeaways.

All being well (or not, depending on how you view things!) I suspect I'll be put forward as a Council candidate in 2022. Assuming I'd stand in my ward or a neighbouring one I wouldn't have any chance of winning, but hey.
What took you so long? Judging by the calibre of council candidates (successful and unsuccessful) I've come across, you seem bright and able enough and would not have been up against particularly stiff opposition. Or is there a rule in the Hounslow Conservative Association which requires aspiring candidates to demonstrate a record of undying loyalty to your party and its current leader, no matter how ridiculous its/their policies and behaviour are?

I only joined the party in 2017 after the last election. One or two hints were dropped about me maybe standing as a "paper candidate" in 2018 in a no-hope ward where we had a vacancy quite late on but I swerved those, claiming (quite rightly IMO) that I was perhaps a bit green around the gills as far as actually standing was concerned.

Yesterday in chatting to one of our senior figures, a former Councillor who is helping co-ordinate our campaign, she said she's come to the conclusion that I'd be an "excellent" candidate. Eek.

I think although it's about getting experience standing in a seat but standing in one where you've little or no chance I think could be soul destroying and IMHO Jason you were right to swerve them, Canvassing on the doorstep is the best experience anyone can have, The Great British public will certainly tell you what's what. Finally Yep, You'd make a good Tory candidate

No. But the royal family are part of the political system.

The Royal family are apolitical and their role within politics today are mostly ceremonial and stay out of politics as much as is possible.
