Yanic Wildschut Signs for Exeter City

Exeter City have confirmed the signing of 31-year-old Yanic Wildschut on a deal that’ll keep him here until January 2024.

The Surinamese winger was born in Amsterdam and was part of the Ajax academy. Yanic played for several Dutch teams before moving to Middlesbrough in 2014. Yanic played 13 times in his first season at Middlesbrough, and was then loaned to Wigan Athletic who were managed by Gary Caldwell, and signed for Wigan for £1m. Yanic played in a promotion winning season for Wigan Athletic.

In January 2017 Norwich City reportedly paid £7m for the services of Yanic. Having played 29 times for Norwich City, Yanic went on loan to Cardiff City and Bolton Wanderers. From there he spent time in Israel and Bulgaria. Last season he played in League One with Oxford United and played in their 1-0 defeat on New Year’s Day to Exeter City.

Yanic has also played once for Surinam.

In total Yanic has played 425 times in club football, scoring 50 times. He’ll wear the number 13 short for Exeter.

On speaking to the Club, Yanic said:-

“Gary is someone I know well and we have always stayed in contact. It was under him I played my best football and I’m pleased to play for him again

We were always there for each other at Wigan, we looked after each other, and hopefully we can do the same here. I hold him in really high regard and I cannot wait to get going.

I’m here to help the team and hopefully my experience can help the younger players. I want to work hard and bring a lot to the team.”
