Jake Caprice leaves Exeter City for Burton Albion

Jake Caprice has left Exeter City having had his contract ripped up and no fee collected for him. He played last night for Burton Albion in a friendly against Brackley Town at their St James Park.

Jake joined the club in the summer of 2020 and played 122 times scoring 2 goals, against Carlisle United and last season against Sheffield Wednesday, though City fans would credit him wit at winning goal at Salford in October 2021 when his attempt at goal hit the post and went in off the unfortunate keeper.

Jake also assisted in a further seven goals for Exeter and was an important member of the promotion team in the 2020/21 season. Although he finished last season playing, he did so while under treatment prior to those games.

Gary Caldwell spoke of his disappointment of Jake leaving:-

Whilst we are disappointed in the manner in which this transfer has occurred, we will never stand in the way of a player who has expressed their wish to leave the club.

Jake informed me of his desire to leave in May and I asked him to take time to consider his thoughts over the summer and in the few weeks of return to training, but it was clear that once offered a bigger and better contract elsewhere, Jake’s feelings had not changed.

We understand and respect his reasons for wanting to move elsewhere and wish him all the very best in his future career.

Jake Caprice joins Jamal Blackman, Kegs Cahuke and Rekeem Harper who he played with at Exeter last season. Jake speaking to the Burton Albion media team said of his move:-

I’m happy to get it over the line and obviously I’m delighted to be here, and I’m just ready to get going. Training has been really, really good. The standards were high, and as a collective I think all the boys are looking really strong.

The game last night was very good. I’m excited for the season and hopefully we can achieve something special this season.

Albion’s Manager Dino Maamria said:-

We are delighted to have Jake. He’s a player who’s obviously caused us many problems playing against him in the past, but he gives us that experience, that energy and thrust coming back from wing-back or full-back.
