Josh Coley Leaves Exeter and Joins Sutton United

Sutton United of League Two confirmed yesterday that they had signed 24 year-old winger Josh Coley from Exeter City for an undisclosed fee.

Josh Coley joined the Grecians on 8 June 2021 from National League side Maidenhead United for an undisclosed fee. During Exeter’s promotion season Coley made 23 appearances and scoring twice (against Bristol Rovers). He wore the 31 shirt and was part funded by the 1931 Fund. In the season just completed he started with Exeter making seven appearances, before he was loaned to League Two side Harrogate Town. He made 13 appearances for Harrogate scoring one goal.

His last game for Exeter City was in their 6-0 demolition at Portman Road.

Gary Caldwell said of his departure

Josh is someone who did not feature a lot last season and he was keen to play more football. Given the fee we were offered by Sutton, we felt it was the right thing for both Josh and the football club to allow him to leave. We wish him all the very best for the future.

Sutton United boss Matt Gray said of Josh

Josh is someone who we’ve known for several years and has impressed against us for Maidenhead and Harrogate, and I’m excited to get him over the line. He deserved his move to Exeter and although it didn’t quite work out for him there he’s an exciting talent who puts full backs on the back foot and has pace, power and the energy we’re looking for in the wide areas.

We wish Josh all the best at Sutton.
