Exeter City to play Crawley Town at home in the League Cup

The draw is just being made and Exeter City will host troubled club Crawley Town. The tie is likely to be played on Tuesday 8 August 2023.

The League Cup has not seen a run by Exeter City for some time. On the rare occasion City get past round one, they falter in round two. The last time City progressed passed round two was our championship season of 1989/90. Over-coming Swansea City in R1, Exeter went on to beat Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and finally succumbed to Sunderland in the fourth round after holding them to a 2-2 draw at St James Park.

Last year City thrashed Cheltenham Town 7-0 at Whaddon Road in the first round, and then lost on penalties to Gillingham after a 0-0 draw.

The competition has had a number of sponsors since the competition started in the 1960/61 season. The first sponsors were the Milk Marketing Board (Milk Cup), Littlewoods, Rumblelows, Worthington’s, Carling, Capital One, and now Carabao.
