Doug Bergqvist to Return to Sweden

The Club have confirmed that Doug Bergqvist is returning to Sweden. He signed for Exeter City at the Bergqvist in action for Aldershot against Crystal Palace in a pre-season friendlyend of last season, coming to us from Aldershot who had to have a clear out of their players after entering administration. He’s left the Grecians on a free transfer in order to sign for Swedish club Östersunds FK on a two-year contract.

The 20 year old was almost immediately sent on loan to Welling United and has played 20 times for the Conference side, scoring 2 goals. The defender is believed to be homesick for his country of birth.

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale has said on the official site:-

It is with great reluctance that we have allowed Doug to leave the club, but in our current circumstances we are not in a position to guarantee that we would be able to offer him a suitable contract beyond the current season.

Therefore it would be difficult to stand in the way of this new opportunity for Dougie and we wish him well at his new club. We are also grateful to him for all the hard work and commitment he has shown when he has trained with us, and to Welling United for giving him the opportunity to play regular competitive football.
