Tisdale on Nil Nil With Oxford United: “We had a team out there, so I’m pleased”

After 4 consecutive defeats, a 0-0 at home to promotion chasing Oxford United will have come as a massive ecfc_oxford_picrelief. Just 2,798 spectators turned up for the game, which is worryingly low.

A plus for the defence and Artur Krysiak was a clean sheet. The first since we played Oxford United at the Kassam back in October – which was also a 0-0 draw.

Paul Tisdale said after the game:-

I’m very pleased with their effort and commitment – it was a proper team out there today,. Despite ecfc_oxford_thumbthe results of late, they showed no signs of wilting.

I’m delighted for the clean sheet of course, because it’s something we’ve not had for a long time, and we worked very hard for it. And it was good to see one of our teams at the end of nil-nil game doing the pushing at the end of the game and trying to win it, and doing it well.

So I’m pleased with a point, and I’m very pleased with the performance and commitment. We had a team out there, so I’m pleased.”

It would have been easy to curse luck on Saturday [against AFC Wimbledon] when two deflected crosses ended up in the back of the net, but today we stopped the ball coming in. We worked hard to recover into place and we never gave the opposition those sorts of opportunities.

It was a full-on performance, we had energy all over the pitch, and we had no-one shirking the workload.ecfc_oxford_feat

Danny Butterfield said:-

The lads are disappointed, because obviously we had a great chance to win the game in the final minute. I think we continued the performance level we managed on Saturday, and also kept a clean sheet, something we haven’t managed in a while. I think that was the big positive for the team tonight.

As a team we set out our stall to keep clean sheets in every game, but unfortunately mistakes have been made by individuals which have cost us in games of late. To get that clean sheet tonight though will give us a lot of confidence going into Saturday’s game.
