Exeter City have signed young winger David Wheeler after a successful trial with the club.

The former Staines Town man starred for the Swans in the Conference South last season, winning the player-of-the-year award, and the lively attacker has now been rewarded for his non-league form with a Football League contract at St James’ Park.

Wheeler played in a number of City’s pre-season friendlies, including a second-half appearance on the right side of midfield against Swansea, and Paul Tisdale is pleased to award him a permanent deal with the Grecians: “Dave is strong and he’s quick, but he’s also bright. He’ll work for the team – he’s infectious and hard-working and has something about him,” Tisdale told the club’s official website.

The winger could feature against Bristol Rovers tomorrow afternoon, subject to paperwork.
